I joined the shed in when it first opened in 2017, out of curiosity really. Men's Sheds were fairly new so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. It wasn't long before I began to enjoy being part of the shed community. It has been pleasing to see the shed develop over the last 8 years, from making do with basic tools, to a workshop that, although still small, can handle almost any project.

Life became more challenging for me in 2020 when I was diagnosed with depression. One of the things that helped me through it was sharing my condition with my friends at the shed, some found it easier to talk about it than others, but all were kind, and all of them helped me in some way. I am certain that if I needed that help again it would be there for me.

The mainly male environment at the shed means that there is often banter that takes place between members, for some reason men seem to need to poke fun of each other,  shed banter is, however, fairly gentle and never goes too far. That said, I was pleased when the shed took the decision to be more inclusive by welcoming women to the group. Our female Shedders add some balance and  make a great contribution to the shed.

Best wishes
